The AF101 rolling shutter is starting to get to me..

I shoot ALOT of hand held, and there are allways moment when the camera shakes a bit and after doing 50+ fast 2 min productions I can se the wobbly fish tank effekt in every jirk.

I cant belive that the image move that much in a 1/2000 of a sekond but wobbli wobbli.
(the refreshrate of the rolling shutter)

And when a use warp stabelizer in AE the rolling shutter wobble makes the image scew in wiered ways.

In the begining of this is I pan the camera fast on purpose and the wobbley rolling shutter is allmost over apperant.

Does the af101s rolling shutter taint any others work?

Well, have you ever shot with a D90 the small amount of RS in the AF is just tiny. But yes there's still some so OIS and a steady hand/support is needed on longer focals.

As a workaround, you could shoot it normally and simulate the fast pan by speeding it up and adding motion blur in post

Just watched this. I shoot a lot of handheld too. What I saw in your clip is nothing. Don't complain about rolling shutter till you've tried shooting on a 5D/7D. The AF-100 rolling shutter has been such a non issue for me. And I was someone that was really worried about it before I got the camera. What I saw in your clip is nothing compared to what I would call a real rolling shutter issue. My bigger problem is flash banding.

Motion is never the same when doing stuff like that vs the real thing.

very true, but it's just another option to accepting the rolling shutter artifacts. In some cases it might be better

Another option would be to use another camera with global shutter or ccd

:) I have not shot with D90, but Ive seen rolling shutter in the eye :O and I know its just little in the AF101, but if the don't ad global shutter to af200 I'm not buying.

and btw, the RS in the movie I posted was 20mm lens

Its an option for intended fast pans but it does not help with the hand held documentary stuff...

Yeah, there's times I think people are overly critical on stuff no one ever notice.
Okay so there was a tad bit of rolling shutter, I see it only if I'm looking for it. Wouldn't have bothered me at all outside of this forum!

I thought your video was good, I enjoyed it. Used to live on malmvagen in sollentuna, just a stone's throw from Kista by the way.
