The absolute basic Mac laptop for the HVX ?

Hi guys,

Hope I can get my problem resolved here... Here is the situation:

1. HVX P2 acquisition

2. Own P2 Store plus external HDDs

3. Broken PB G4. Repair would cost in excess of $ 1,000 (motherboard replacement)

4. Used PB 15" with PC card slot $ 800 - 1,200 . Is it worth the money considering the fact that June or maybe later this month, Apple will ship new laptops with buil-in h.264 hardware encoder (a rumor) and other upgrades.

5. MACBOOK PROs over $ 2,000 new plus $ 120 Duel Adaptor. Is it worth the money (see above)

I figured what I need NOW, is the basic Mac laptop possible to use with the P2 store and external HDDs.

What I'm not sure about is what IS the basic Mac laptop I can use to work with FCP that can handle HD footage? i.e iBook ? Mac Book ? older PB models?

I want to spend as little money as possible now, so I can buy the newer Mac later on, but still need to do some light editing and portability is a must.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Best, Robert

If you own a p2 Store, get the 2.16 Ghz MBP for $1844.00

When the duel adapter 10.4.9 fiasco is fleshed out, you have a perfect editing platform.

i have an old 1.0ghz g4 17" powerbook that i use for p2 transfer and edit in the field. now i wouldnt go doing a bunch of heavy effects on it. but it edits the p2 footage super smoothly. you can probably pick one up used for under a grand
