I don't bother watching the show, but then, I don't bother watching the Superbowl either. They both happen every year, what's the big deal?

It was a pretty hard selection in a good number of the categories...I feel like Winter's Bone deserved something though, just not sure what.

From my film facebook friends, it seems like a lot of them were on the "anything but social network" bandwagon. I don't get it, I thought if anything that was the strongest film in the best picture category. Weird...

I care too. Since that seems to be the topic...why do you not care? Is it because of the agenda that you think the Academy has? Is it because you don't like seeing people recognized for achievements? Is it because you're not nominated?

I see there is a "real discussion about the Academy Awards" thread started, that is exactly what I was trying to avoid, a cheer-fest. :love4:

If you want to get a discussion going, you don't cheerlead, or you just get beige answers to beige questions.:violin:

This thread has already gotten better response than that"other" thread will, if you want people to join in, rile them up.:thumbsup:

I totally don't get what you are getting at. :(

in situations like this i like to remain neutral, like the swiss. they discovered a long time ago that bullets put holes in cheese.

Sorry if I got caught up in the grandeur of the greatest filmmakers in the world gathering once a year to celebrate the thing that they, and I, love. I suppose I'd rather be a cheerleader than the guy who leans against the end of the bleachers on the corner of the field, with a toothpick in his mouth and the collar of his leather jacket turned up, trying to act like he wouldn't love to be out there with the people who actually enjoy themselves.

Id est, my Hathaway to your Franco.

The "Academy Awards" comes right in the middle of what has been called "Awards Season" by the media.

"Awards Season".

These shows have diluted the impact of the "Awards" they hand out to the point where they are a shadow of their former grandeur.

Does winning an Oscar make a film more enjoyable, nope.

There ware once real Movie Stars, not now, just a bunch of pretty's, perfect teeth, perfect hair clones.

Why do you think the award shows are struggling to get viewers?

You can ooh and ahh all you like about who won what and who should have, but they're just a bunch of people playing make believe in front of a camera, getting an award voted on by a bunch of people playing make believe in front of a camera (slightly simplified by you get the idea).

I am more interested in the 2010 EMERGING CINEMATOGRAPHER AWARD WINNERS or the Directors Guild Awards to see what is really being done and by who(m), than an expensive popularity contest (look at the lobbying that takes place to make sure the "right" film, actor, etc wins). The best whatever doesn't win, the best lobbying does. It's called Hollywood, remember?
