So, that's it for me so far with FCP X.... Got to either stick with FCS3, or head to Adobe...

Today I was working on my first FCP project. I did about 3hrs work this afternoon, and then quit for a while. Everything was fine...

Then I launched it again, and did around 3hrs more work. Of course, there's no 'save', so I'm just assuming everything is 'saving' along fine. I noticed that the 'skimming' feature didn't seem to be working anymore, so I quit FCP X, and then re-launched it (no error messages, or anything).

All of a sudden, my project is back to where I FIRST quit 3 hours ago! 3 hours of work just disappeared in 20 seconds!

Can anyone suggest why this may have happened? If I can't trust this software to do something as basic as just SAVE my files, what good is it at all?

It's sad to think that a lot of people paid $300.00 to be beta testers

Why would you use FCP X or any new software on a real project without test driving it first?

Really? Test drive the "Save" feature? On a 'pro' level $300 product? How exactly do you 'test drive' the 'save' feature?

Well, I think this is where Apple wants us to think differently. As you found out, there is no "save" in the old sense where you manually save. FCP X auto saves now and its called versions, and SUPPOSEDLY even saves your work when it crashes. I haven't lost anything due to a freeze, so haven't had the chance to "test drive" that feature.
 
Thanks for testing out FCPX for us, I have always waited at least 6 months for any new version of FCP or OSX.
 
Of note, Pinnacle Edition had constant, automatic saves quite a few years ago. You could even undo all the way back to the beginning.
 
ctrl+s and daily project versions are reliable. never had any faith in auto save. no control.
