That look...

I was out yesterday afternoon just doing a couple test shots to see if I could get the look I wanted from using incamera settings.

Chroma level -7
Chroma Phase +7
Colour Temp -7

I tried to get the proper white balanced footage to match my "improper" white balanced footage in Final Cut.. .but it just looks way better in camera..

man I love this camera...

one thing of note.. when I had the white balance set for indoor(tungsten) it looked a lot more blue on the LCD than it did when I brought it into FCP.

One other thing that contributed to this look is the overcast sky that was going on at the time.. which coincidently is the exact type of whether I need for my short..

I like the second grab a lot, but I am curious what that would do to people's skin. While the tree's might look cool, people might look sickly.

Color temp -7 didn't do anything for your shot. Using color temp -7, with manual white balance, would have made the shot very orange. Using color temp +7 could have produced a very dramatically much bluer look, but color temp doesn't work if you're in the white balance presets (which, from the description, it sounds like you were). Next time you want to go for a blue look, use a manual white balance (be sure to put the white balance switch in "A" or "B") and then try color temp +7, and it'll really go blue on you. If you want EXTREME blue, use color temp +7 but manually white-balance through a #85 or straw filter...

lol.. that would explain a lot..

I was playing around with the settings while standing there amongst the trees..

I really didn't notice a difference when using a manual WB setting... the only setting that had any impact on my perception of the image was the Chroma level at +7...

I couldn't remember if it was + or - for Colour Temp to get a warm or cool look .. since it wasn't changing my image much I just left it as is.

I didn't know that those settings didn't function with the preset WB... hmm.. thanks for the heads up.. gonna have to do another test shoot to really get the most out of the camera.

thanks barry.

here are a few more images I took tonight..

now that I properly white balanced those controls worked well..lol..
