FS7: That B Camera Question Again

Hey Folks,

I am working on a quote for a two camera all day shoot. This will be quick turnaround thing in which I will upload the files for someone else to edit. I am thinking I will just shoot XDCAM mpg2 50 mbs and rent something that will match.

They did not specifiy codec or format.

So, what should I be looking at to rent? EX3 or what? I want something that hopefully has the same Hypergammas or Standard as the FS7 so I know they will match. It will be locked down on a tripod doing the wide shot and I will man the FS7 on a tripod for mid to tight. What high capacity media for the rental?

Thanks,
Robert

I have great success in matching my EX3 with my FS7. Just keep the FS7 dumb and stupid. Mpeg 422 at 50mbs. STD5. I set EX3 Picture Profile 2 cine and then white and black balance both cameras. Looks and matches great!

Can't you just rent another FS7? everything will be same including cinematic DOF look.

That was my first thought but I don't need the cinematic look for this event. And since mpg2 will be OK there are cheaper alternatives.

Failing that A7s with recorder shooting slog 2 or the same gamma...

Yeah but fast turnaround. Trying to avoid having to go to Resolve or elsewhere for transcoding and/or color correction.

That may be the answer. Anybody know about the PMX-100, it rents cheaper?

Maybe this will help; http://www.newsshooter.com/2014/08/0...story-channel/

See above. XAVC-S is not that well supported and I would need to transcode that.

At the end of the day I would try to match the dynamic range of any two cameras because that will be the first dead give-away, the second will be the color but with Resolve V11 you can color match two cameras with the click of a button. ( you need to shoot x-rite color chart with each camera and lens combo first)

As above, I hope to avoid Resolve for this shoot. Dynamic range shouldn't be an issue for this live event. It's a speaker in front of a small crowd in a small banquet room type space.

Thanks Folks,
Robert

Why area you setting the FS7 to Std5 and the EX-1 to Cine? I would think both the same.

Is this because there is more inherent highlight handling on the FS7?
I have matched the F3 and the EX-1 and used the same profiles but did see that the F3 still handled the highlights better. Aside form that they were dead matches.
