thanks barry green

The 100 bold faced warnings in the manual have me scared to death of pointing my camera anywhere near the sun - I guess you didn't blow up or turn into ashes or anything though, huh?

DVX100A Manual: There's something very important I forgot to tell you.
Me: What?
Manual: Don't point the camera toward the sun.
Me: Why?
Manual: It would be bad.
Me: I'm fuzzy on the whole good-bad thing. Whattya mean "bad?"
Manual: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal....
Me: Right, that's bad...OK.. important safety tip. Thanks, Manual.

:cheesy: Glad the book helped! That looked great, and that hot air balloon looks like it must have really been moving!

I was told you have a great book and dvd. Picked up a copy, looking froward to reading and watching.

so, for your clip what settings did you use?

Was it 30p or 60i?
In Interval Rec and Interval Time, what was your time set to?

The footage looks great man!

i got it to work! you have to jump through the hoops on the site. Hit "download now" then it will ask you to click another link to start the download. After I click that it asked me to choose a program to open it with...so i chose quicktime, and it worked.

I think you need to edit the footage some more. It's a little choppy if you know what i mean?

When I captured all my clips of the sunset, each frame is it's own clip, so I had to splice them all together in vegas. That was easy, but once they were all there on the timeline, each shot was still too long. I had my settings at 30P, 1 sec Interval Rec. My advice is, don't do 1 sec!! Go with .5 secs. At 1 sec each shot had to be shortened to its fullest. Which means I had to change each clip to have a velocity envelope with the velocity turned all the way up, Pasted the event attributes to all the clips, then had to manually Press and hold control+drag (shorten) each clip and then finally splice them all together again. Took a good 15 minutes of monotonous clicking and dragging.

you said you recorded each clip at 2 secs...that would probably explain why each clip seems a bit too long. it doesn't "flow" as it should, get my drift? hope this helped :)

oh and as for pointing it at the sun and my camera blowing up....Sunsets and sunrises are a bit different, i mean I can look at them with my own eyes and not feel the need to turn away, why should the camera be different? Plus I have a UV filter on to protect the lens. Should I still be wary?? :undecided

yeah i know it looks a bit choppy.. I'm going to run it again during today's sunset to see what the .5 sec will look like. I'll post up again later on.

Yes. Simply put, just because, you're looking at the sunset for what 30 seconds AT MOST at a time...Imagine the sensors in your camera and the lens magnifying that amount of light for an hour or hours...

But it's not too big of a deal, I've seen this shot before...But I'm always wary or overly cautious for my DVX!

Side note: As I typed this, a time lapse sunset happened on the tv.
