Avid's message boards almost treat p2 workflow like it doesn't exist. Is anyone else tired yet of the method of importing p2 ftg by taking from the video and audio folders and placing them into a MXF folder? Why can't Avid do p2 imports as easy as FCP? Oh wish on a star.
And why can't FCP do it as easy as EDIUS or Raylight? Either is much better than FCP's method.
Actually if you're editing off the card, Avid's fine. It's the way they copy to the hard disk that's a bit goofy. But if you're editing from the card it's great, you just register the card with the media tool and then you can import the files directly into the bin. I'm reeeeeeeaaaalllly hoping that FCP 6 adds that level of functionality.
One of the major features of Xpress Pro 5.7 and Media Composer 2.7 habve direct import from the File Menu. As with all new formats, features, and technology in general, it may take several versions for a solution to be complete.
