Thai Student's Video Projects (Must See)

Kirk Gillock

Rebel with a cause
Recently I had my college students break into 3 groups. Each group were to write, act, and direct a short video. The result was a variety of videos and some pretty funny stuff. "Hero" is the best one! But they all have their charm.

A Way of Life - A Thai girl goes to college and falls in with the wrong crowd.
Quicktime (right click, save as): 6mb
Windows Media (right click, save as): 3.5mb

Hero - A woman is attacked on her way home from work and is rescued by a friendly stranger.
Quicktime (right click, save as): 6mb
Windows Media (right click, save as): 3mb

Who? - A business man checks into a haunted hotel room and is contacted
by a ghost.
Quicktime (right click, save as): 8mb
Windows Media (right click, save as): 5mb

I did all the campy post production, so you can blame me for that. The audio is bad because the air con in the rooms can not be turned off. It is difficult to understand the students because Thai people speak very quiet. Even when you tell them to speak louder.

Enjoy!

made in the style of "dogville" this will mark a new stripped-down approach to filmmaking! no sets! no locations! they're like plays, but not! truly a must see!

in all seriousness though, thanks for sharing your student's work. i am sure we will see poor american remakes of each one by next summer!

Oh I'm sure you are. This just shows us what your focus is. For example, "DRUGS" is spelled perfectly and written quite legibly!

I liked "Who" the best..

Was that a windjammer or a chia pet on the table in "A Way of Life"? :)

Good stuff man.

I started crackin' up as soon as the "security" guys came in pointing they're "guns." lol, I also like how the "hero" laughed and smiled as he kicked ass. very funny

Those were fun. Classic moment when the girl turns to walk out the door and pushes instead of pulls.

Haha! PK, you have to stop using my cousins in your movies. It's almost like watching Asian porn but without the porn. :)

Those were madddd funny!!! But good.

The security guards with their scary weapons in Hero...and the awesome spelling in Who?..

I liked Hero and Who? the best. Maddddd good/funny for a short thats limited to one location and no lighting or anything. Good job!

Glad you all enjoyed them. The students couldn't stop laughing while watching them. I made a blooper reel for them too.

I think the project worked. A few students came up to me, afterwards, and were interested in writing/making more movies. The opportunities here are so limited, most only think they'll be tour guides or air hostesses.

I dont know how I missed this post! I've been waiting for these and you did not disappoint. I liked them all, but the ghost one made me laugh the most. Way of Life seemed like the actors were more into their roles (or very scared). And Hero, well, who can resist a good arse-kicking in slo-mo. :cheesy:

Thanks for posting, and....

I'm Behinde Youre's, too!

pk-
those were fun, thanks for posting em!
i like the fight scene in hero where everyone is smiling yet fighting...
good work!
t

Oh Snap!

Was that Tony Jaa bringin the pain in Hero (aka. Ong Bak 2)??!?!

I especially liked how he was faking hurt at the end even though the bad guys never got in a single punch or kick.

That sneaky Tony Jaa will do anything to get the girl. :)

Awesome stuff, pk! That was fun to watch!

Wow! I wish I had an English teacher like that!

(I didn't have any, and it shows.)

That's awesome, PK! They are learning by doing fun stuff. I am sure these students will remember you for the rest of their lives.

J.
