Tests for Chromatic Abberation

Now that the HVX's are slowly getting into people's hands, how is the lens performing regarding chromatic abberation? Has anyone done any tests?

In particular, I'm interested in hearing how it performs at full telephoto with parts of the image out of focus. This is the worst setting for chromatic abberation on the JVC HD100U stock lens. I know the HVX isn't totally CA-free either, but just wondering how much better it performs in this situation.

This will be a big factor in a few months when I get to the point of deciding between keeping the HD100 or selling it to get the HVX200.

To be fair you must compare them at the same focal length. The HVX maxes at 55mm, the JVC std 16x Fuji lens goes to 88mm. You would need to compare them both at 55mm.

The Fuji lens is worst a full tele, and will not look so bad at 55mm.

My personal observation is that the Panasonic lens is pretty well corrected.

but on the flip side of that, you can change the lens on the jvc but not on the hvx. if the lens is as bad as people are saying on the jvc then change it. if you have ca on the hvx, you're sol. just for the record, i plan on getting the jvc. as much as i love the hvx (for the dvcpro50), i need to be able to record to tape for now.

Exactly, and that's also a factor in this decision. The JVC lens can be upgraded whereas the Panasonic's cannot. However, the only other option for the JVC right now, with a suitable wide end (at least 5.5mm), is $10,000-12,000. If one could afford that, they could just keep the JVC and buy the Panasonic as well. But not everyone can, myself included.

I agree with the other comment, the two lenses should only be compared from 5.5mm to 55mm. That's a given.
