Testing Problems with the Micro 35

There is alot of information about the mini 35 mount (which i have used) and the micro 35 ( still yet to use) and the G35 ( only just heard of a few days ago) and I have looked at alot of test footage from each...

A couple questions I have for anyone who has used the micro 35 and mini 35...

Firstly, the pentaprism's main purpose in the "mini" is waht exactly? just tp flip the image?

Secondly I know that once you place 35mm lenses on the mini 35 all that needs to be done is to open up the aperture wide open on the DVX ( camera i will be using) and focus everything righto nto the ground glass.....is the procedure the same on the micro 35?

and lastly....

All the footage i've seen of the micro 35, i've seen some distortion around the edges...(most annoying) is this just a beta testing problem or is it something you have to deal with?

So if anyone has the answers i'll be most grateful...
also if you havea n y extra advice on these products that would be great too

yes, the purpose of the pentaprism (pentaprisms are very expensive) is to flip the image, and yes, the micro35 works exactly the same way as the mini, they both have the DVX focus in on the glass and then have a little motor spin it so that you don't get a grainy image. The G35 has developed some system to enable them to use a static piece of glass.

I've seen the distorted stuff, but I've also seen alot of good footage from the micro, I for one will get one once i can scrounge a grand together. The mini35 is better, hands down, but is also 10x as expensive.

Search around on this forum there is alot more on the mini, micro and g35.

I don't know where anyone got the idea the Mini35 uses a 'pentaprism' as it really doesn't...
What people refer to when they say 'pentaprism' strictly refers to an optical inversion (i.e. - flip).

Sfa softness around the edges, if anything, it *could* be the diopter. However, Redrock is using the highest quality lens available. Yet, as we all know, a lens is sharpest at the center and becomes softer around the edges. The recent sample footage is from a Sony HD camera, which may make it more noticeable. We just don't know yet.

You can be certain whatever Redrock is offering is the best you can get. If it turns out the diopter isn't so great (I highly, highly doubt that!) then you could always put some additional spend towards a more expensive model from Century Optics. That is, if the difference is worth $300.

Truthfully, I would just wait until they come out and there are actual reviews of the product...

Hey thanks alot guys...

I thought the micro had already shipped and was public certified...

anyway thanks for your replies, people don't always give you straight answers.

what exactly makes the mini 35 better?

the motor is loud, the mechanical components are basically the same...

i mean let's forget that we are going to 35mm blow up...
what if you were to shoot with 35 lenses, keeping in mind that you will be shooting for television and then transfering to t.v.

i don't think the image should look any different...not if you run it through final cut pro and magic bullet....

so what's the difference?
except $9000..........sorry if i'm being naive and obnoxious...i am just curious...

the difference is that you have to shoot upside down. which can be fixed in post or on camera in various ways ... the magnet method (not recommended) or flipping an external LCD.

the micro is shipping i believe, but there haven't been any official reviews, at least i haven't seen any. You have to order it like 4 weeks in advance though.

There is a guy who represents the micro who floats in and out here at dvx, they also have forums on the micro site, you might want to check those out.

i'd have to say cosmetically ... it's the most horrendous thing i've seen, but i guess having a 10ft lens sticking off the end of your camera is the only way ...

ok i see...
so it should working if i bought an enternal LCD.....and turned it upside down

i was also thinking to have run into an HD monitor laso... i guess that image will be flipped too...
