Here is the issue, I have FCP HD & a New DVX100A (yesterday) - still having problems with jaggies and interlaced looking frames, even though I read this...

http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Events;action=display;num=1089314867
and this...

And everything else I could find through google, 6hrs worth at least. I believe I am recording at 24p Advanced, and capturing from the camera, not a deck, with the 2:3:3:2 Pulldown Removal. I create a sequence at either 23.98 or 24 and still every 4th or 5th frame looks like this (just a test)...

this is a good frame...

AND... when laying down the clip into the sequence(s) ( 24 or 23.98 ) the clip is NOT rendered (red stripe at the top of the sequence) but the smart people already know that... The issue is what in the world can I be doing wrong? I have read so much about this subject and I still don't know what is going, it should work, meaning... If I did it right, CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, I should lay the clip in the sequence and not have to render it, and should not see any frames that are interlaced, right?

Re: Testing for me

The post above was my first, AND I DID IT BADLY - If the moderator can/would please change the subject to something remotely relevant :) that would great, something like...

FCP HD & DVX100A - JAGGIES, HELP!

thanks and SORRY!

Re: Testing for me

you should repost this in the forum section that covers the NLE or software you are using.. people in that section would be able to help you.

Re: Testing for me

I assumed - incorrectly - that "TECHNICAL" would encompass the issues I am having. I see the other forum has, hopefully what I am looking for - you have my appreciation.

Re: Testing for me

What you're seeing is exactly what I reported in the other thread: that's the interlaced frame created from the 2:3:3:2 pulldown.

If FCP works properly, it should be removing that frame. I hear more complaints from people trying to get 24P to work properly in FCP than I do about any other editing question. I don't know the answer, I've never used FCP, so hopefully SlapDragon or someone will weigh in and tell you how to work with it properly. But there's nothing wrong with your camera, that's a necessary part of the pulldown process, and it should be exactly every 5th frame, and a proper 24P editing environment would eliminate that frame transparently so you only ever saw the good frames.

Re: Testing for me

Ok Barry, I see you answer the questions on this topic often. One more Q...

If I have the camera set to 24p Standard or 24p Advanced, do "ANY" of the other settings on the camers matter? Will that effect the capture, or how it is written to the tape? WBalance, FStop, Shutter, etc?

Re: Testing for me

Every setting affects how the frames look, but none of them affect how the frames get written to tape except the progressive frame rate (24P, 24PA, 30P or OFF (60i). The camera writes flags into the data stream depending on which format you record in, and 24P-aware editors are able to read those flags and process the footage properly.

I really don't understand why this is such a big deal with FCP, but I swear I see 24P-related questions on every board I visit, and they're always "I'm using FCP, why doesn't the 24P work?" All I know is I use Vegas, and it automatically interprets all footage correctly -- I can shoot 24P, 24PA, 60i, 30P, whatever all on the same tape and it imports every clip as a different clip using the proper pulldown removal (or lack thereof, for 30P or 60i). I don't know why FCP is different, and what it does differently that is causing people so many problems. Hopefully someone will explain the process so users can get past it.

Your question is definitely FCP-related though, so I recommend you post in the FCP forum for help.
