Terminator Salvation

the time travel device is made till 2020's 2029 is when the war ends and the terminator is sent back. it was a fail safe. procedure. its create a paradox with john conner. alternate universe and stuff. much like the back to the future saga. but linear once you go back the future is changed.

so normal conner life judgement day then john conner stops up rising.

paradox.

time travel T1, T2. time line saved. Jday delayed. T3, JDay. terminator salvation.

T1, T2 terminator sara conner chronicles. 2012-15 no JDay yet.

it just different timelines by now.

None of it really makes any sense, though. When you start talking about alternative timelines, then that means in the Terminator universe, any changes made to the past affect a different future then the one you came from. The skynet that sent the Terminators back through time would still live in their same crappy future, even if they were successful. What would be the point?...You just have to suspend disbelief, which I'm fine with, as long as a movie doesn't break its own made up rules. The dramatic juice in the Terminator series has always come from the humans in the story trying to stop a potential future and preserve the future messiah. It's more of a variation on prophecy stories then a real time travel story.

It starts to have the same problems as the Highlander sequels, including the TV series.

Highlander was a complete story. There was nothing left to be told after the end of the first film. All the immortals were dead. It was over.

So, nothing after that really made sense, and some of the "explanations" were profoundly stupid.

That said, I did enjoy the series -- but I was only able to do so by treating it as its own world entirely, separate from the movie. It followed its own rules, and that was fine.

So it is with all the Terminator incarnations. If they follow their own rules, then fine. (Haven't seen this one; don't know if it does.)

Who was John Connor's first father? Reese wasn't around for the first love session with Sarah.

Exactly. I made that point up above. The only possibility is that the first John Connor that destroyed Skynet was born to a different father, making the John Connor we all know not the true John Connor.

I think T2 was the best of the Terminator movies... maybe not the best sequel of all time, but a pretty high on the list. And a favorite of Women's Studies classes (in the 90's, at least).

To me, one of the defining characteristics of the Terminator series is the "fish out of water" feeling of the Terminators - the very "human" sense of these machines trying to fit into and understand human society, sometimes competently and sometimes not. This was done fairly mechanically in T1 (lists of phrases the machine chooses from, occasional interested glances); made more "human" in T2 with the "curiously interested tilt of the head", etc., from the T1000, and made more explicit in T2 with Arnold's "lessons"; and, I thought, performed excellently by the female Terminator in T3. That understandable, intelligent, but alien quality. In the TV series, it waqs also a major focus and handled more or less well throughout.... and expanded in various ways with the different characters (esp. John Henry).

In this new Terminator flick, it's completely absent. Basically, there's no "Terminator" in this Terminator.

This film was a complete let down and iam a terminator fan, about the only thing this film did, was make me apreciate the magic and brilliant story and filmmaking of the first two films, I am very disapointed with this film as a whole

The first 2 were really good. Same with Alien/s and maybe Freddy Kreuger, and Jaws, ect.

Star Trek is the exception though, hehe.

Just a thought, but...good, bad...best, worst...are very subjective. They are subject to the taste and thus opinions of each unique viewer.

I enjoyed this latest version of Terminator as much as the others when I was young.

"There is no fate but what we make. . . . I'll be back" - John Connor - For sure, he will.

Hasta la vista, baby....:)

Anyone who says T2 was the best sequel ever made might want to watch The Godfather Part II.

--SM

Or Aliens, Wrath of Khan, The Two Towers, The Return of the King, and The Dark Knight to name a few more awesome sequels. Both The Godfather Part II and T2 are definitely in my top ten best sequel list though.

I walked into this with almost too high of expecations I think. T2 is my favorite movie of all time un fortunately (or luckily), and so I walked in with so much angst and excitement since I'm overall a fan of Bale since he's such a hustler.

But some things in the writing were just so poorly done in my opinion, I'm not one to think something's too far fetched and all that, I can appreciate action, and being held in suspense, but sometimes I'm saying "give me a ****ing break", and the ending was what really pissed me off.

"it's his heart, he's not going to make it"
"take mine"

god damnit.

7/10

if you go by james cameron he says its just a movie...
but he also said it was always kyle.

I mean it not the best timeline basically it goes the grandfather and the bullet theory.

The best time travel described film is back to the future its explanation it play on reality and past and future event amazing.

I love how John Connor repeatedly broadcasts the Resistance's battle plan over an open channel. His "inspirational" speeches might have sound dramatic on the page, but it's just incredibly stupid in real life.

I've basically come to the conclusion after seeing this film once. I tried to hard to like it and I need to let go. The movie is okay, but basically. I can never expect another good terminator film as long as I live.

BTF 2 has the biggest plot hole of all time (travel), it contradicts its own rules - Old Biff delivers the time machine back to a future that no longer exists after changing the past. The writers explained it as a time delay that ripples forward, but Doc Brown clearly explained it with a diagram on the white board, you can only go forward on the new timeline once you change something.

Yes, that was a problem in BTTF 2. BTTF 3 had more.

The original BTTF was pretty tight, but it had its problems, too. Of course, there isn't any time travel story which doesn't. BTTF did pretty well.

thats what im saying bttf did the best they could. they made ripple effect believe able. old biff dies in the future because in the alt 1985 in the original script and commentary he is eventually shot by marty's mom that why he looks like he having a tummy ache when he gets back to the future.

yes theirs flaws but i think they did the best and where clever with the sending the letter to marty as soon as he went back to 1885 the time machine in the cave etc etc.

i mean it more realistic than the butterfly effect.
