Anyway...........about your film? Any thoughts on what I actually said pertaining to your film?
 
You're totally right about mostly everything you said. You did screw up regarding the score. The voice over sucks, I know, strange you never mentioned the funny accent also, I'm waiting for the voiceover dubbing... And it is a ripoff, that's what the whole thing was made for. I'm sorry you didn't like it.
 
I like it. It's in my top 5 of the fest. I'm hard on it because I liked so many other aspects. I heard Dahopa say something I really liked about Eighteen Seconds. It went something like "I have a phonebook sized list of praises, and a laundry list of complaints. I don't have time to get into the phonebook content so I'll just discuss the smaller complaints"

I don't think I screwed up on the score critique. I guess I was benchmarking it by Vangelis' better mixed works. There's a lot of his work I don't like on a technical level. I'm sort of an audiophile. Sorry Vangelis, you still rock.

It means the composition was good. BUT, the mixes, the actual technical process of putting the compositional content together wasn't too hot. It's bland more of the new age variety than space music, which is what I love from Vangelis.

New Age = not very evocative or textural, flat, like a set that's not lit that well.

space music = evocative, deep textural depth, Blade Runner for example

This is one area where I'm not a dumbass. I gotta have some saving grace. :)

Hi Nicolas,

I loved the style of this too. Ripping off or not, you can only do this if you have an eye for cinema, which you clearly do.

I think you've been very gracious in all the criticism too. As it's clearly a homage I won't give this an in-depth review as it's all been said here; but I'd like to see more of your work.
 
the music has a cold quality because that was what Vangelis was going for on this one ..from " Antarctica " movie ( the one the recent "8 below" movie copied )..

Vangelis is probably the musician most responsible for making electronic music sound less cold and warm , if it does sound that way ..its his choice as he mixes all his work himself.

and he's about as far removed from bland new age music as is possible.

i thought the music went well in this film , but then his music seems to go well with most visuals.

i liked the film .. one of the few i managed to watch all way through.
