Anyone have any suggestions on teleprompters? I know I can go spend a bunch of money, but would like some input as to what experiences people might have. I have a shoot next week, so I have some time.
thanks,

all of the above, lots of resources. I am trying to do this economically however. I know about the teleprompters that price from 899 to 3 grand. I just want to know if anyone has opinions on easiest and of course economical.

kind a hard to make recomendations without any information...

What software do you plan to use? do you even have a laptop to run them from? are you in a studio? in the field? gimmi somethign to work with here.

Mikko, just a recommendation, you don't need that information, obviously from my last post, i am not concerned with resources.
For your information, I can use either windows or mac, I want to use it on location for the upcoming shoot and then be able to use it in studio. Again,I just wanted a recommendation.....

thank you Barry, as always you come through.

Different situations require different gear. A 3 minute presentation to a studio camera on a pedestal requires different gear than a 10sec shot to a 20' jib in the desert.

Seems like you have it under control though.

- Mikko ... takes his advice and offer of free software elsewhere.

Mikko,
Just to clarify, I am going to use the teleprompter on a jib arm in an office, which will also dolly. Big office in Beverly Hills.

Sounds like an interesting shoot.

I've heard good stuff about the prompter people. Their lightweight setups look good and are in the right price range too.

If you get a system that reverses the video in monitor (as most do) and are looking for some simple software to run it, feel free to use a program that a friend and I made; "PlanePrompter"

I have been working as a professional teleprompter operator (among other things) for the last 4 years. I have used several systems over that time and I have used prompters on every kind of shoot imaginable. Given that, and assuming that you will be using the teleprompter for years to come, here is my recommendation:

Use a QTV FDP12 with the WinQue LT software. (http://www.qtv.com/catalog/QTVProductGuide2005.pdf)

Yes, it is a little expensive. BUT there isn't another system out there that will work as well under all circumstances.

Here's how you save a little money on it: Don't buy a scroll control. Use a mouse or the keyboard. this will save you about $400.
Buy a cheap laptop and load the software on it. Dell makes laptops for as little as $500.
If the laptop has s-video out then your in business, you won't need to buy a VGA box. Just get a s-video to BNC adapter (yes, they make them) and run directly into the prompter.

I got one from PrompterPeople just before the price increase ($100). Small one designed for smaller cameras. Worked well on the shoot. Good for 10-15', maybe more. I'd agree with with Gauranga on skipping the scroll control. I opted for a wireless one but didn't use it. That money would have been better spent on the software upgrade from the free "lite" version to the full.
