telephoto lens help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey dudes, ive been filming surfing lately with the dvx and enless it's a high tide, i cant really get close enough to the surfer with the stock lens. I want to look into a good lens for around 500 bucks. will a 2x do the job? my buddy says that it wont make much of a difference and i need to get a longer one. anyone know any good brands and models? thanks

its an okay lens and i've shot 40+ days with it of surfing. I wasnt really stoked on its weak zoom capabilites for alot of my footage, have u thought about investing in an underwater housing by equinox??? they run about 2000 with a tonne of functions and u'd probably like a wide angle or fisheye to go with it. That's what ill be doing but the 1.6x is a great shortcut to get what u need, aside from the fact that u'll need a polarizer on it which means a matbox since filters cant be attached to it. I made a quick fix matte box outta cordoplast which worked great even though it looks like crap but then again im more concerned with the look of the video than the camera.
