Tele Converters

So I was on ebay, browsing for lenses when I come across a posting for a Tele-Converter. Intrigued, I decided to check it out. I had seen one only once before, so this was a bit of a refresher course for me.

For those of you who don't know what a teleconverter is:

"Increase your focal length of your present lens by 2X. A 50mm lens becomes a 100mm lens and so on. Why buy an expensive telephoto lens when a teleconverter will give you the same length for less money. This converter is in very good condition, the glass is clear and without any scratches. Comes with front cap, rear cap and storage case."

Now my question is this: have any of you guys used tele-converters with your lenses on your 35mm adapters? By all means it should add an additional lens or 2 to the lenses in your collection, so I'm seriously considering picking one up instead of going out for a 100mm or even 200mm.

Share thoughts please.

Puck,

Unless this is something new in the world of optics, it is simply what is commonly called a tele-EXTENDER. a magnification device that you mount to the back of your lens They come in various powers such as 1.4x, 2x, 3x etc. A 2x extender will reduce the effective f stop of your lens by a factor of two. That is if the lens you are using it on is a 100mm f2.8 the lens becomes a 200mm f5.6.

ow! well good thing i thought about asking THAT question.

At least now we can all share in the knowlege that there would be serious light loss with that thing on, so a definite "no."

Just gonna bite the bullet and buy some primes. What's the largest one you use Chuck? I was looking at a 100mm or a 200mm (non-zoom)
