Hello everyone!

This is an
Inside Joke Films sketch called "Teen Suicide is Not Funny". You can see it on youtube or vimeo.

I posted up No Homo on the boards last week, and I was really happy with the advice everyone gave. I would love to hear what you think of this sketch as we keep working on new ones and improving our production value.

It's videos like these that shows you, that you can make a good film WITHOUT a camera, and that's it's the STORY.

Honestly, the camera work/editing didn't work for me, and maybe many others. Felt it was shaky, and the shots chosen weren't the best in the "Creative" field.

But other than that you had STORY, you had ACTING, and you actually had decent SOUND. That's really all you need to pull off a film, and you just proved that to the internet.

Good job,

Robbie

Robbie - I totally agree haha.. 100% - we have some ways to go in presenting everything the way it should be. I realize now that we really need to work with pre-planning our shoot in order to have a good edit. This was actually a nightmare edit because of the lack of interesting coverage we had gotten. It was a lesson well learned.

This is why I wanted to post it up here. I know you guys will tell it how it is.

Thanks!

Graham, my EXACT thoughts. But Toronto :).

However, I have some advice I can offer.

Shoot many, MANY multiple angles (and I'm sure you've learnt this reading my last comment)

Get a lot of cover shots, so you don't have to sweat during the edit.

Write our a storyboard also, could help if you get stressed in the pre-production.

I'd recommend to get a toy for your camera also to help sell the effect.

Once you hammer out your camera work, you're work will look that much better.

Now by Toy, I mean a dolly, or a steady cam, or any other camera rig you can think of.

A cheap DIY dolly would even work.

Before all that toy stuff though, really work on your camera work to try the most cinematic shots possible.

I know you might not being going for cinematic film look here, but I know if you wrote a short film (perhaps lossfest) you could really do good.

I'm not saying you need the film look either, it's just something I enjoy, and it's a nice look in the over all ending.

Keep at it,

Robbie
