'Ted & Mary'

It's been a while since I last posted on the forum, but I figured I would start again with the start of a new production.

This new production is called 'Ted & Mary' and is a short film. I wrote the script about a year and a half ago and it has stayed at the back of my mind since then. I decided to revisit it recently. I posted the script last year in the writing discussion forum and it got very good feedback.

I am even happier with it now after some editing and input from outsiders.

So where am I then.. well.. in my grand wisdom, I decided to apply for a grant; one called BravoFact, which will cover 50% of my budget. Thus we arrive at problem #1, coming up with that other 50%.

This is the script:

I am right at the start of a fund raising campaign to acquire the other half of my budget, which will come in at a hair under $11 000.

And because of the grant deadline, I must have my cast in place, 3 months before I know whether or not I get the grant. Along with my key crew.

This is my most ambitious project; combining many elements into one film. The beginning of what will end up being a very beautiful film, or perhaps an epic failure. Hopefully the former.

And Away we go.

You only have two locations....how are you budgeting this? I only say cause you can certainly produce this for a few grand, which you already have.

Quote's on ballrooms are ranging from $2000 to $10 000 a day. I am also shooting this on 35mm, over two days.

I am paying my crew, and hiring professional dancers. It starts to add up pretty quickly. I could do it for a few grand as well, but in this case, I want it to look as close to film I have in my head. And want this project to be a step up for me in terms of scale and production.

That, and I have run out of freebies from other work I have done.

My biggest expense is crew at the moment.. I know it seems like a lot, but my budget is actually pretty reasonable.

choreographers, art directors, steadicam operators etc.. are pricey.. and I am getting deals on them still.

Kind of crazy how expensive it can be to make a film.

Next week I will post a breakdown down how I went about budgeting this. So you can see where the money is going.

peas.

Lots of work being put into this one. Can't wait to see how you colour correct it! haha...
