Hi All,
Very interesting compare-and-contrast exercise. Last week I did my first full-week location shoot with the AF101. After having struggled with the Canon dSLR's last year, it was pure un-alloyed pleasure to work with the AF101, a few shortcomings of Lumix lenses notwithstanding. I'm delighted with the footage and keen to get going editing it.
Bizarrely, I spent the evening finally getting around to editing some footage shot on my DVX100 about six or seven years ago. It really brought home just how spectacular the progress has been in that time. Looking at the noisy 720 x 576, 25p inside 50i video after the magnificence of full HD 25p was really a "Woah! Hello! Progress!" moment.
Sure is an exciting time we're living in, where movie quality imagery is coming out of the big Hollywood megabuck domains and into the offices of cottage industry guys like me.
Big kudos to all the techies and tech companies for making it happen! The DVX100, limited though it looks in comparison with what we're lucky enough to have now, was really the vanguard of that movement. I think it'll be looked back on as a real watershed camera, as will the AF101.
