Teaser Trailer for Tolerance

Looks really good.

Like the camerawork and the look.
I hope I get to see the finished product someday..

Hiro, can't wait till the investors give you the money for this production; cause I can't ****ing wait to see this. Somethings not right with the sound, or my ears.

Hiro, the shots look fantastic. See that's the kind of the way I want my film to look. With the slightly warm but not overbearing look. You have to share with me your cc techniques.

Also I love the way you did the title. How'd you do that?

The only thing I didn't like, was the narrator. He didn't seem that believable but that might just be me.

Other than that, everything was great.

footage looks great... the shakiness worked in this situation.

I didn't like the narrator though. The dialogue didn't seem natural, didn't flow very well.

thx for the comments, we'll look into it & I'll post some cc pictures.. before and after. It's really not that hard, just gotta mess around til you get the look you want.

Like the others, the voice over lacked something. I gues I didn't hear the torture in the characters voice. He didn't sound like he was on the verge of giving in? Otherwise it looked great, adn the edits were right on.

last image, I added 50% more contrast.

Roman... now thats something to be proud of.
In my opinion, the one thing that make this look amature is the audio... there was something about the recording mic quality and his performance in the voice. A better narration will be catch up with the video.

hey, roman, thats cool. you can be a ramon too if you since those vowels around... yea or i can be roman.

yea we got someone else to do voice acting, we agree that it was alot better than the first. so i'll guess we'll stick with this one and see what happens :)

The footage looks good. I hate to play devils advocate but two things stood out:

1.) It seems to me like more style over substance. No amount of voice over will change that. I hope there is more to this than some bearded guy being dragged around in his pajamas. He looks a little young to be an international spy/agent.

2.)All spies know that they're existence will be denied by their governments. All know when caught they will be subjected to torture. They are carefully selected to be able to withstand mental and physical trauma. Not that they wont ever break, but the emotional crux of the protagonist seems a bit contrived.

It's like knowing the rules of a game then complaining about the rules after you've lost. I expect most spies have more mental dexterity than that. I'm sure they are well aware of the situations they could find themselves in. So the story as it stands rings a bit false to me.

The footage is top notch, I hope there is more to it than what I have seen so far.

An argument could be made that what makees the story intriguing is that this spy had signed up for this knowing what the rules were, knowing what he would have to do if captured, but when faced with actually being captured he realizes that it's more than he can handle, and perhaps he starts questioning the whole process altogether. I don't care how tough you are, how devoted to your country you are when faced with death, any human with a pulse is going to have some fear, they're not going to say okay, my turn to die no big deal, I'll take one for the country. Are there spies who are willing to die if captured, yes. Will they accept that fate without emotion, I doubt it. Some are going to crack, some are going to wonder why they did this, especially if they enjoy life at all. Now how this movie deals with this subject matter remains to be seen, but I think it has potential if done right.

Just my 2 cents.

Hiro,
First I have to say this is simply visually stunning. The location you shot in is amazing. I'm guessing you found an old run down prison or something and had free access? Too freaking cool.

Your color correction technique is great. I saw the posted grabs, but I was wondering about your work flow on it. Did you do this in layers? Or did you just add color corrector filters one on top of the other on the same clip? (and what program did you CC in? FCP? Vegas?, etc.)

I disagree with Tibby's take on the concept and lean towards Stevesherrick's. No matter how well you're trained, at the end of the day, you're still a human being and there is a breaking point.

I think the teasers are strong, but the narration and the words are a little overkill. There's too much explanation going on. I think you need to boil it down and let the visuals take the lead in the execution of the teaser. Try and say the same thing in fewer sentences.

IE:
Right now you have the last line saying "HOW MUCH ARE THEY WILLING TO TOLERATE FOR THEIR COUNTRY". Good idea, except the name of the film is Tolerance and it seems to me (imho) that its more effective to tag the true name of the film there.

Maybe break up the sentence to hint at the concept in the previous sentence and pose the question to the audience differently to put them into your protaganists position (ie): "WOULD YOU HAVE THE TOLERANCE TO KEEP YOUR SECRETS?" or "HOW MUCH TOLERANCE DO YOU HAVE?" (This should be the last sentence we see. Previous sentences should explain who he is and what secrets he needs to keep)

Other than that, it looks amazing and I'd want to see this film.

Is it a short or a feature? And is there a finished script? How much was your budget?

Yes, everyone has a breaking point. That was never my argument.

Someone who has gone through what I would imagine being a rigorous mental and physical training regiment, Someone who has volunteered for that specific duty would probabbly focus his frustrations elsewhere. It's not a matter of being tough or devoted to your country. It's simply that these operatives have training for these types of scenarios.

Yes, it's just a movie, but the device itself seems like tired old been there done that hollywood hokum. It's extremely hard to warrant sympathy towards your lead if his fate is a direct result of choices he has made.

It's akin to watching a drug addict blaming society for his addiction...'yawn'

That's just my second penny dropping. The movie could be very good, but I'm not sold on the trailer at all. Visually (even though it seems to be repeating the same types of shots ad nauseum) the movie "looks" good. The narration is tedious, it almost seems to be trying to make up for lack of story. The basic idea is sound. I just hope it has the substance to back up it's impressive visuals. Right now it's just seems like a supermodel with an IQ of 75.

Looks AWESOME.

However, the voice over is a little weak sounding. Especially for someone enduring all this torture.

We need that famous voice over guy...

"One man..."
"In a world where..."
etc.

:D

Thanks for your thoughts, I read the script, it's an action movie but the story centralizes around the characters experience, so it their performances will have to sell the movie. It's good, its different.... The director has a vision and I'll do my best to deliver it visually.. the story decisions/changes, I'll suggest a few things but its really up to him, he's produced this whole project, I'm sure he won't fail to deliver. The only thing he's waiting on is.. money.

This movie will be a feature, kevin needs 10k to start. There's alot of pyrotechnics, specialfx (blood, stunts), there wont be any cg effects. The location is a run-down prison facility here in charlotte, kevin's got a good story about securing it for the movie. That will be revealed in the behind the scenes. Color correction is done in vegas, with each image, filters were turned on, color corrector & contrast.

thx everyone. go panthers.

Err, if you think thats what modern spying is like.. the reality is much much more boring. Lucky we will always have James Bond ( and when will we see a Black actor playing James Bond...oops I may have just started a race war :)

yea it looked really good, try a different voice thats all (may be a deeper, more desparte voice, that one sounds to "healthy")
