Teaser trailer for film shot with FX-1

That was very good ! I really liked the colours, sun-tanned look.

The motion sometimes looked video like, but was ok, perhaps some kind of slow-mo effect would have been suited better ?

Anhar

Thanks. There actually is slo-mo and a 24p film effect on all the shots. Somewhere between the slo-mo, the downsizing and the encoding for the internet the film motion got lost, in particular the shot of the hand. It looks beautiful on my HD monitor.

Digged it a lot!

If you don't mind me asking, what were the settings you used on the Fx1?

And is that a lens adapter you used, and if so what type?

Mateo

No lens adapter, just both in camera ND filters to lower the f- stop for shallower depth of field, cinegamma on, and color level at +7.

I thought it was great except for the trailer itself which didn't give me enough info. Yeah he was coming for us and all but it seemed like all hype and no show.

It's a TEASER trailer. It's meant to TEASE. Not give info. The real trailer will come later.

I adjusted the gamma slightly with a plug-in called stib's film curves to push the greens and the reds. On the last shot I used a sunset gradient filter.

I think it looks fine. I didn't really notice any vidio'ish scenes. Looked all 24P to me. Well done!

Are you shooting with a PAL FX1 or NTSC?

Jesse

NTSC, using Nattress Film Effects for the 24p conversion, which works great but takes a long time to render. I might have to sell my 6 month old Imac G5 to get the new Intel one which is more than 2 times faster. Damn Apple. Always making their stuff better.

When you do the nattress conversion it becomes 1080/24 or do you first have to downconvert it to SD? How much resolution is lost in the conversion to 24p?

It's a Final Cut Pro plug-in. The footage becomes 1080/60i with a 3:2 pulldown. It has a smart deinterlacer so you only lose resolution in areas of motion, and even then you only lose about 1/4 of your total resolution (but you tend not to notice when things are moving). Nattress has a Standards Conversion plug-in which will actually turn 60i into a 24p sequence, but it's a bit cumbersome to use.
