teaser for epic romance short :D - DVX/SGpro

Some very nice images there!
Good lighting!

Maybe a little bit noisy, but it didn't really matter.. It added a "feel" to it.. So yeah:)
Good work!

thanks man!

yeah. it's heaps noisy... but that's only in the super compressed file i got from the producer... the original has some grain but it's more like 16mm grian... i didn't shoot with any gain or anything.

i'm gonna get a copy of the original files so i can edit together a nicer cut...

looks good:)
the dark shadows looked cool
but the image looks a little bit on the soft side...
maybe need more light???

looks good. apart from the noise and softness already mentioned...i like it. I've been a fan of ur work and Tommetass for a while now and its cuz of u guys i luv the sgpro. So Question for u sgpro users cuz i gonna get a blade when i have some $ (whenever that iz :P woot!!) Since the adapter makes ur images soft do u guys mess with the detail level or just leave it at 0. Naked dvx shooting i always have my detail lowered for a more filmic look...but i'm just wondering how it goes when u slap that thing on. Ryvac plz feel free cuz ur an sgpro user...well ex user :D

Btw Ryvac...i just now noticing i dont think i have seen anything from you. Do u have somewhere i can see some of ur dvx stuff?

i shot this with -4 detail. i seem to always shoot with -4 detail. i experimented a while back and found that +1 sharpness is the MAX i would use ever. any more than +1 is not helping but making the image worse. but even +1 doesn't really that help much. just makes things more noisy. so i just leave it at -4.

the dvx is noisy camera. especialy the original dvx. which is what i've got. but i think that adds to the feel of the image. if you've ever shot with 500t s16mm. you'd think the dvx was pretty clean :)

low light makes the image softer. and the sgpro makes it softer and i probably missed focus slightly and i'm shooting wide open.... also it's low key soft lighting... so the original footage is soft. but not as soft as the clip i uploaded. and the grain isn't that bad... went super blocky with the compression... maybe i should have just heald off posting till i could get the original files :) will post full rez screen grabs soon

I love the 3rd shot, the CU of the girls head laying down. Good music selection too.

Anyways, I too shoot with a -4 detail setting (and -6 pedestal). For what its worth, it is also recommended to shoot with a low/none (-7) detail setting especially if you intend to uprez your picture to a higher resolution because you'd otherwise be adding another level of detail artifacting (flynoise/ringing) to the existing image.

I would agree that the original and A model of the DVX is a bit noisy, but the B model is fabulous (as DV cameras go). I had done work with all on the same project and the B holds up really well in relatively low light. Regretably, not so with the earlier models.

Not to say that its necessary since it could be a stylistic decision, but you maybe able to apply some light temporal noise reduction with some grand success since much the footage looks be at a slower pace.

That's only shot with a DVX100b? What settings did you shoot on? Aside from the aforementioned softness, it looks great.

movie dude, it was shot on the DVX100E - it's the original model DVX100 (2 before the B) it's also the PAL version. coz i'm in australia :)

BUT the most important thing is!!! I also used an SGpro 35mm lens adapter. if you don't know what that is, then find the 35mm adapter secion in this forum and take a look arround :)

wheaticus, i think i stole that shot from macgregor's 18 seconds short - atleast that short came into mind when i framed that shot up :) http://vimeo.com/369591

settings were;

-4 detail
-4 master ped
norm gama
norm1 matrix
25p
fine freq
everything else zero

i usualy shoot with -6 master ped. but it was such low key, i didn't want to lose the brown walls too much
