tattoos?

Just wondering if we work in an industry where we would be turned down for a job because of tattoos. Almost every indie iv worked on somebody has at least two sleeves but what is it like in hollywood? I plan on getting 3 not to crazy tattoos as long as steven spieldberg wont turn me down from a job.

Can't speak for hollywood, but film making has always been a more relaxed casual wear kind of industry. No business suits, must be clean cut kind of stuff. So I don't see it being a problem. But don't take my word for it.

Nobody cares how much you choose to mark yourself up. If you're talent it can be covered with makeup. If you're crew no one gives a crap what tats you bear so long as they're not incitement.

something like this might get you fired or......invited to certain after parties not that there's anything wrong with that :)

I think casual is ok, but crazy ain't....don't show up on set with a zoot suit with no undershirt, showing off your giant chest tatoo of Bee Arthur....no day glow clothing with hair colored to "match". It's a distraction to the cast and crew. I dress the most casual during the summer when I have a light colored button up shirt, pants with as many pockets as possible that I cut off with scissors into shorts(light in color as well), and slip on shoes(light colored as well).

In colder climates I repeat almost the same except it's darker in color, long sleeved, full pants, and maybe different shoes(I still like slip ons).

I know this went off into clothes, but I think it reflects.....don't go nuts. You're working in an industry where people need to get things done, be in a zone, and there are allready watts upon watts of lights, boom poles, giant camera rigs, tons of people, etc....the last thing any production needs is a sore thumb that drags attention one way.

Just to give one extra bit of perspective...I have NO tats. I have been contemplating a single tat for over 7 years, and I may or may not get it....I certainly won't get it somewhere horribly visible. For one thing I have to live with it, as does everyone around me. Will you still love your Rusted Root tattoo you got in 96'? How about that picture of Right Said Fred? Hell when I was 12 I loved Hulk Hogan....you don't see me with a tat of him, and I'm damn glad I couldn't get one then, lol.

Here's the Tat I may or may not get someday:

Can I ask a question? What about in 15 years? You have risen up in the ranks and now are being asked to help produce a film. Or be a DP.

But now you have to go to an interview with a bunch of exec's or they invite you to a golf game to discuss things.

What then? I have no probs with someone who is tatted, but there is a "stigma" attached to it. And are you willing to undergo removal, should that opportunity arise? Your call.

Then again maybe tattoos will not be such an issue at that time. But always think of where you want to go in your future before making that kind of decision.

In fifteen years time execs will be 16 years old and they all will have some sort of metal stuck up their arses .

There may be a stigma attached, but I strongly believe in how you carry yourself in any aspect of life that matters more. You may call me naive, but I disagree that a tattoo in this industry will affect you (from a crew POV), regardless of meetings with execs.

Tattoos on arms, back, chest, etc can be covered up for the occasion. What exactly is your basis for tattoos affecting a meeting with an executive? That they will somehow deem you unprofessional because of your artistic choices? That's why they're talking to you in the first place!

I highly doubt you will get flagged for having a tattoo by one of these execs.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong,

Kegan

I think the simple fact that we are having this discussion is point, and fact...

The question is....Will NOT having a tat reduce your likelihood of getting a gig?
