Tattoos Anyone?

You should do it when you're 18. Just get your face tatooed onto your face. Then, when your 64, you'll still look like you did back in the good ol' days. :)

I have tats. Never regret. Want my wife to have one. She's not 100% I have always liked em. Find someone that's good. Then come up with a good design together. Good luck.

I can't believe we have a thread that's 3 pages long now and nobody has posted a pic to show one of their tattoos... I keep checking back and still nothing.

BTW I wasn't kidding about the dolphin on my ex-wife's ass... even though it sounds like it. Had it been a Sun and you set up a cam for time-lapse it would have looked like it went supernova.

Well, I guess it's not exactly completely 'out of the blue' that she said she wants one.
She's mentioned it in the past, but it was always in passing.... sort of like "I could see getting a tattoo." But the other day she told me she's decided that she wants one. She just doesn't know what yet (which I find strange). I always figured that if I got a tattoo it would be because of WHAT the tattoo is, as oppossed to wanting to get a tattoo first and then find something that I like.

But, she's not that impulsive so I'm not too concerned.
We talked about what it would be, and she's not too sure. She's got some ideas. All she knows for certain is that she wants to design it herself (she does a lot of artwork, photography, painting, etc). So I'm pretty sure she'll come up with something good.

We made a deal that she would work out some designs, and then once she decided on one she would wait at least 6 months before getting it done (like someone mentioned here). If at the end of that time she's still into it, then she'll get it done.

I don't really care about other people's reactions either... it just sort of through me because we hadn't talked about it much, it was always mentioned in passing. We've been together for 8 years now, and married for a year.

Who knows, maybe a year from now we'll both have "ink."

Definitely not something I can take too lightly though.... like someone said, it's there for life.
I was telling my wife last night that it's more permanent that most other things we consider to be "big desicions." You can sell a house, you can get a divorce, you can go back to school and change carreers....but there isn't a good way to get rid of a tattoo.

I have to admit though, part of me really thinks the idea of a tat on my wife could be damned sexy (especially is she goes with the full body supermodel tat that was suggested)
:)

She didn't find that one nearly as funny as I did.

All jokes aside, my ex-wife had a tat of a dolphin on the top-right side of her ass... and I always watched that until it looked like a whale and then I left.

If you get something in Chinese make sure to bring a Chinese friend with you... the last thing you want is to be the guy that get's laughed at everytime he goes out for kung pau chicken.
LMAO!!!!! "Until it looked like a whale and then I left". That's some funny **** matt.

Funny you mention the chinese thing, I got my last name in chinese down my leg. Afterwards, I consulted a chinese guy, he said it didn't say anything. lol.

I also have the start of a huge piece on my chest, two sparrows (Not the gay ones that the good charlotte wanna be's rock.)

I have a piece of pencil lead in my wrist from about fifteen years ago. I was running in a locker room with a pencil in my pocket and fell on it somehow.

And a crappy cell phone pic of my DOTD tat that I posted in a horror movie thread.

Here's how I got my tattoo:

I knew I wanted a tattoo and I had a pretty clear idea about wanting a dragon on my right arm.
So I went to a real good tattoo-artist. The guy is one of the best in Germany!
I went up to him and told him what I want. He took a lot of time talking about it and finally it was settled. The painting on paper was done, I was ready to go. I asked him "when shall I come over to get it done?" He looked in his scheduler and said "July 18th"
I said "what?"
He replied "July 18th".
It was f...ing January back then!
He said "look, if you really want this tattoo, where's the problem? You come back in 6 months and you get it done. It will never ever come off, so whats 6 month compared to the rest of your life?"
I agreed and waited 6 months.
I showed up and he asked "are you still sure about this?"
I replied "absolutely" and got my tattoo.
It's a dragon going all the way from the ellbow up to the shoulder on my right arm. I never regreded my decission.
But I'm glad he let me wait 6 months until I was really really sure.

So my suggestion about tattoos is:
as soon as you're absolutely sure about what you want to get and where you want to get it, go and find the right tattoo-artist. This might take weeks, a lot of driving and a lot of talking. Then, when you found him, wait half a year - or at least 3 months. If you're still sure about the whole thing: go for it.

It will never ever come off! You better be sure!

I got an 18" tatoo of "Alf" on my back. It has him holding a dish and saying, "Here Kitty, Kitty." I was a HUGE fan of Alf when it was on TV in the mid-80's. Honestly, I thought that show would just go on forever. An alien that loved to eat cats? That's comedy gold. NBC removed the show, but they can't remove Alf from my memories .....or from my flesh.
