Tattoos Anyone?

So my wife tells me tonight that she's thinking she'd like to get a tattoo.
I'm not sure where this came from, but it's something she's been toying with for a while.
Neither of us have tattoo's (yet) and we're not exactly what you would think of as "tattoo people" (whatever that means)

Still not sure how I feel about it.
She asked me if it would bother me, and of course I had to bring up a DVXuser analogy.
I told her that was like when people post on here and ask "Should I buy the XL2" or "Is HDV worth the money?" It all depends on the context, what are you going to do with it?

In her case I told her it all depends on what the tattoo is of, and where it is, and how big it is, etc.

Just curious, anyone out there have their spouse or significant other get a tattoo out of the blue? How'd you feel about it? And how do you feel about it now?

The idea doesn't really bother me, I'm just worried that in about 10 years I'm going to be sick of looking at it (depending on what it's of).

I have a tat on my lower back of a tribal 'comedy/drama' in the shape of a surfboard/shield

My wife has a tat on her left lower ankle of a tribal sun

I love them. I'd like another one; havent got around to it; but will.

My .02 is think really hard about about where you want it and also have able to be hidden when you want

I have no regrets

I think im the man for you. I have 5 tattoos, 7 soon. I work at a tattoo shop and I use to do tattoos. I have 3 not so thought out tattoos and Im fine with them, they all give me good memories. I forget their there and I get surprised sometimes. My girl friend has one and I love it. A little bow on her inner hip. I tell everyone think about what you want. I hate seeing people coming in getting a Name and comig in a month later and covering it up.

How about a road sign tattooed on her lower back that says "Do Not Enter"... I'd get that one if I went to prison. Or maybe a whole body tattoo of a super-model?

I want to get a whole body tattoo of myself only taller.

All jokes aside, my ex-wife had a tat of a dolphin on the top-right side of her ass... and I always watched that until it looked like a whale and then I left.

How 'bout a tat of your favorite breakfast cereal? I'd like to have a big spoonful of Lucky Charms on my guns.

If you get something in Chinese make sure to bring a Chinese friend with you... the last thing you want is to be the guy that get's laughed at everytime he goes out for kung pau chicken.

I've got a big piece that takes up the upper portion of my back. I had a drawing of it next to my bed for 6 months before I got it. I wanted to make damn sure that I'd thought, and re-thought the design.

I would never 'spur of the moment' get ink work done. That's there for LIFE, it should garner some serious thought. Having the idea out of the blue is fine, but decide on what you want, and then sit on it. And REALLY research your artist as well.

My .02

Honestly I saw this thing on the Discovery Channel of a show in Vegas where they display the best ink in the country.

If I could have a tat like that I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Something that represents you on the inside... and maybe where you've been... and what you hope to still be... or grow to be. I would want something that makes me remember who I am and who I want to become.

This couple tomarrow is getting, cherries in her pubic area and her boy friend is getting "cherry poopin daddy" in his pubic area.

Very cool post, Matt. That's exactly where I was coming from with mine.

Its a great job but I have to deal with a lot of odd people. But I just think they'll some day be characters in my films.

I hope this is just a spelling error on your part or else he's gonna be a little bit disappointed with his new "poopin" tatoo.

You don't know it OL Boy... but you just saved some guy a lifetime of humiliation... unless of course it really was a fecal matter.

I was stabbed with a pen in my right knee several years ago and now I have a blue dot there. Sorry, that's as close as I come.

I've got six tatoos that I got between the ages of 18 and 24. One on each lower leg, one on each upper arm, and two large tatoos on my forearms. I'm 33 now so it's been a while since getting my last one. To be honest, there are times I really get sick of them - especially the big obvious ones on my forearms. It's not that they look bad, I often get compliments, but that's part of the problem. There's nothing worse than some yahoo coming up to you and saying, "nice ink, dude... who does your work?" while he proceeds to disrobe and show you all his "ink" with an essay about the significance of each one. You might be surprised by how many people feel you should automatically have a deep bonding experience in the grocery store line because you both have tatoos.

So, think long and hard and get a very personalized design.
