Anyone here fix a broken xlr connector on a Tascam DR-60D? Just wondering how hard it is to get the covers off and get down to the connectors so I can replace it.
It is likely PC board mounted.. so not a job for someone with even basic soldering skills.
I've read reports of XLR/M connectors getting 'stuck' in the Tascams' .. but never experienced any issues personally with Neutrik and Switchcraft XLRs.
I have the 60D, but never tried to open it, sorry. I've read somewhere, I think (though I'm not sure!) on the PV board that someone was able to get it out and that doing it wrong breaks it badly. Having read about this vulnerability I've always been careful to only use neutrik and good quality xlr inputs, though ultimately it's probably just the luck of the draw... the 60D famously has this issue, and supposedly it's been corrected in the mkii.
Yeah, I've had some issues with these combo connectors before, but normally I can get the connector out.
I'm actually looking to buy a used DR-60d that has a broken connector, they managed to rip the XLR cable out, but the chassis connector suffered and needs to be replaced. I think something else may be broken because they only claim it powers on and want too much money to take the risk. If they come down in price I may give it a go, but not what they are currently asking for it.
