GH2 Tascam DR-40 Sescom cable & Tips

I finally purchased a Tascam DR-40 from B&H as they were on sale for $140 plus Pluraleyes 3 included. I've always used the Beachtek dxa-slr for run & gun work. I'm primary going to use this for interviews, wedding ceremonies, and when I need to capture clean audio. I have three questions:

1. If I plan to sync with the GH2/GH3, do I need to purchase the Sescom cable Sescom LN2MIC-TAS-MON or the LN2MIC-TAS-GH1 ? I plan on getting a GH3 soon so would the 3.5 to 3.5 be a better purchase?

2. I have a Audio Technica AT875 shotgun mic, are there any problems with the mic to work with the recorder?

3. Are there any tips & tricks I need to know about the DR-40 to work better with the GH2 & GH3?

Thanks!

I use the Dr-05 with the Sescom cable and it works perfectly but I had wanted to upgrade to the DR-40 and this bundle/sale was too hard to pass up (thanks for the heads up). The specs on the two Sescom cables are the same, one has the 3.5 jack and the other has a 2.5. I use the 3.5 with an adapter to 2.5 with my GH2 and I preferred the 3.5 size because I use it with other 3.5 cameras as well as the GH2. I have not used the mic you have but have used a number of different mics with good results. I only have a couple tips: set the record level on the DR-40 first and then the camera level and always remember to set the DR-40 to record mode! The last is easy to forget in run and gun shooting otherwise you won't get much, if any, audio to the camera (assuming the DR-40 works similar to the DR-05).

I use the Tascam DR-40 with my GH3, no problems, works a treat. Tip, make use of the dual recording mode. This captures a safety track -6db lower, to avoid distortion if that should occur. Very handy to have 2 recordings, one a little lower in volume as a backup!
