Tascam announces PCM in-line wireless lav recorders & XLR cube recorder

Yeah I wanted to get a few of those…..maybe someone sued Tascam????

That passed through my mind too. I don't want to start making allegations as I have no evidence, but if this is the case there is only one company that comes to mind that would really want to see this product delayed.

Also, if the case goes to settlement, can I get a piece of that action too? Because afterall I have been talking about a product like this for a few years. I never engineered it, or built it, or tested it, or took it to trade shows, but I had the idea too, so that means I get some money right?

Anyone know of Tascam retailers in Canada, or what countries would have a decent exchange / shipping rate?

These products are really nothing new. Sure maybe smaller and lighter but I have been using Zoom H1's like this for years now. Plug in a small Audio Technica lav and the device is still small enough to fit in a pocket. Works great and I rarely miss wireless lavs anymore and actually find the quality to be better since I eliminated any transmission quality loss.

The Zoom H1 is a pretty darn good sounding recorder when you plug in a decent quality lav mic. I doubt the Tascams would have been any better. Only advantage was the compact size and the backup -6db recording mode which could be nice since one cannot monitor these live.

You forgot locking connector & pass through ability so you can use the recorder solo or w/ a belt pack transmitter.

Those few things over the H1 to me are a big deal & something that I am really eager for. I hope it gets sorted out & these go on sale soon.

They just said they can't ship to the US. I think they are very close to the situation because they have a couple of outlets in the US as well as Canada.

"These products are really nothing new."
Hmm.. yes they are. Pass-through is new. Diminutive size is new. Running into a quality wireless allowing real time mixing with a backup/iso recording is new..at this price point. alas...patents etc. Also, check juiced link lil darling updates

My point is we already have a device with similar functionality if you want it. Yes maybe not all the features but the H1 can still be used in mostly the same way. By the way the H1 can pass through to a wireless transmitter. I do it all the time. It has mini in and a mini out which work together. Just because something adds a few features and shrinks the size doesn't mean it is a never heard of type of a product. Yes what they did was impressive to the point of making me also want to get one but that in no way diminishes the H1 to be used in a similar way. Especially when you factor in that a H1 can be purchased for less than $100.00.

I have had Irivers with Giant Squid lavs for years, and until this TASCAM device arrived, nothing really has been available to do the job in the same way. Now we can use better lavs, and a better recorder.

Has anyone picked up one of these units? (Only the XLR is available in the US, but the lav version should be selling elsewhere.)

Between the fact that it doesn't have P48 & that Tascam has been released Mark II updates on some of their products (sometimes at lower prices) makes me want to hang tight for a little & see what happens.

If I could get a P48 version for $150, I'd order one today.

Seriously, that would be great, even better if it just was always recording while the transmitter was on & just recording over old files as it fills up.

Though I believe Zaxcom has some patent on putting a recorder into a wireless transmitter & they're suing Tascam over it, so that is why we can't get the DR-10c in the US currently.

That is a ridiculous lawsuit. I should patent bread or air. I understand the important of patents and copyright and have the utmost respect for them but sometimes companies try to patent the most ridiculous things. Half the time these are only designed to curb competition long enough to pull in as many sales as possible before a court throws it all out. Patents are meant for real inventions not just slapping two common technologies together and calling it an invention.

What a misleading phrase when it involves lavs: No cables, no wireless, no worries
Uh huh..and no monitoring.
Good luck!
