I have no problem recording to an external USB drive via DVRack with the cam connected (of course) via firewire. My laptop has built-in USB2 ports. I am not sure that USB 1 would be fast enough. BTW my external 2.5" drive has a cable with 2 USB connectots at the PC end because one USB port may not provide enough power for the drive (varies by laptop and drive combo). 40gig drive holds about 3.5 hours.
OK, I'm narrowing it down. With DV control set to "both" I can use the DVX to trigger recording on the tape and QuickCapture, but when it's set to "ext" nothing happens with the QC. Any ideas?
I never use a tape with my DVX-100a....currently I capture my vid's through my laptop using Premiere 1.5 and save them to an external usb ion drive.
I did test out DV Rack and it worked the same as Adobe, but I didn't want to spend the extra $$ for the software. Currently I wouldn't use all the features of DV Rack.
Yes, my the no tape icon still flashes on my DVX...I just hit the record button in Adobe and all is good!
Powerdog, don't have much ideal onw QuickCapture since I don't use their product..
