Tape Stock ??'s

Hey all-Looking for some guidance on this one, I figure you folks can certainly give me some worthwhile insight. I've just bought a HVR-V1U, and need to get some more tapes. The tapes I have I got when I ordered the camera, and they are the Sony HD Master Tapes-They look great, but run about 16 bucks a pop, and while Id love to continue using them, my wallet may think otherwise.

Basically I am trying to figure out which tapes will be the best for my use, I will be shooting in HD half the time, and SD the other half-And as much as I would like to go with the cheapest thing I could find, I find a certain sense of safety in using Sony tapes in a Sony camera-Normally that wouldnt be a big deal, but considering the camera's price tag, I am hesitant to use anything that could hamper the heads or anything inside. I have heard horror stories of branching out with your tape stock and the cam not being used to it and fighting back.....Any suggestions?

I use the cheapest thing I can find. Maxell, $19 for a eight pack at Sams. Never had a problem I think the whole tape thing is a scam. I use a tape twice so I really get my moneys worth. When I go on a shoot I use new out of the box after I have no need for that tape anymore they go into a stack that I use for movie backup. Once a tape has been backed up it is labeled and stored. I have been thru three mini dv cams in the last six years no problems. I have hundreds of tapes backed up no problems. My two new V1s don’t know the difference in the Sony tapes and the Maxell.
