tape not advancing

I went out to shoot this weekend and my normally high-performing dvx100B was acting quirky: when I hit record, it just hung up on me. The "rec" light blinked as it does when waiting for tape speed, but the tape didn't advance. I changed the tape and tried again and it was hit and miss.

I have had to use the camera as a mounting deck for a few log and captures recently and am suspicious of that.

What should I do about this? Is there a way for me to diagnose the issue?
