Tamron lenses for 5D3

Has anyone here used Tamron lenses before with a Canon 5d Mark iii? They are a lot cheaper in cost than some of the other Canon lenses, so there has to be some kind of catch. For example, you can get a Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 for less than $400, while a lens of similar ability from Canon would be much more expensive.

I use the 24-70 and there is no catch. It's an amazing lens and IMO matches up to the Canon. The IS isn't that great but considering the canon doesn't have IS...

AFAIK the Tamron lens you mention only covers a crop sensor camera. The Canon EF-S 17-55 will not physically mount to a full frame body such as 5d Markiii, while the Tamron may mount there will be major vignetting black edges if it does.

I think you're right. Thanks for the warning. I believe the Di lenses are for full frame and the Di-II are for croppsed sensor cameras. Because of that I've looked into the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF).
