Tamron 70-200mm random aperture control with Speedbooster?

I just got a Tamron 70-200mm Di VC USM to go with my FS700 and Speedbooster. The lens seems great, but the aperture control is all over the map. I will move it and then a few seconds later it might change...might not. In looking at the Metabones site it says supports the lens be specifically version 17, which assume I assume is the latest version. This is a new unopened lens, but I don't know who long it has been on the shelf? So my question is, has anyone been using this combo with success and/or how do know what version number of the lens you are ordering? I just got my Metabones Speedbooster back from Korea for the latest updated firmware on it so that shouldn't be the issue.

Thanks for any feedback. The lens seems like it is great, want to make this work.

Metabones definitely seems to struggle a bit more with non-Canon lenses. With that said, there's some instruction somewhere on the Metabones page where you can match a non-officially support lens to Metabones. Not sure of the link but I would think it might be easy to find or someone else might know.

I see, so I need to send it back to Hong Kong for another firmware update. Good news but also a bit of a bummer as I just went through a 5 week experience of mailing it out and updating the firmware of my speedbooster and just getting it back last month. I wish I did not have to do this again right now with work lined up, but if it is my only option then I guess I have too. I'm hoping it will be a free update like last time? It cost me about $70 to mail it there with insurance this last time.

Just to point out one thing. My Speedbooster was the original model, pre ordered it before release. The only issue I had with it was the glass inside the adapter became loose and could spin around...it never fell out, but I could spin it. This was my original reason 3-4 months ago for contacting Metabones to see if there was a proper way to tighten it. A person on support said to send it in to fix the issue and get a free firmware update. That was great and he was very helpful, but upon getting it back with the newest firmware update (April), a new issue had occurred with using my Canon 24mm-105mm f/4. The aperture control still works pretty much, but now it flashes blown out overexposure for a split second when I change my stops up or down? Also, every once in a while, now it hangs for a few second before switching aperture. I am hoping maybe this new latest firmware may resolve this? Do you happen to know if this issue Metabones was aware of?

With the info Gene offered above I did find this page on the Metabones site and gave it a try any way out of desperation...but no, it did not resolve the issue as you stated it it wouldn't, at least for this lens, just had to give a try anyway.

The "flash blown out overexposure" thing sounds like the infamous artifact of the "Green mode". You may switch the adapter to "Advanced mode" instead by holding down the button on the Speed Booster while turning the camera on.

More or less, "Green mode" emulates an LA-EA3 and "Advanced mode" emulates a native E-mount lens (sans autofocus). The same "flash blown out overexposure effect occurs with LA-EA3 too.

If it occasionally hangs for a few seconds, it is likely losing communication for a few seconds due to bad contact. Did you experience any rotational play or any looseness with your 24-105 on your Speed Booster?

Interesting Conurus. I really appreciate the tip and feel a bit silly I did not know about the advanced and green mode. HA.I will most definitely try that out.

Pretty much anytime I use the 24-105mm I am doing run n gun handheld with one hand on the lens and the other on the body and it feels like a really solid connection. The occurrence only happens if I push through a few stops real fast trying to go from f/2.8 to 5.6 real quick. I wouldn't even complain about it other than it simply worked better before the last firmware update. If my Speedbooster simply acted that way when I first got it, I would just assume it is a minmal price to pay for what the adapter does for me. But...I know the TRUTH!!! It is capable of not doing that! LOL.

Maybe the Advanced mode will possibly prove to illuminate the issue? Thanks for the tips! I am in communication with Metabones Support about sending it back for the newest firmware upgrade. The back and forth communication is a bit slow though because of the time difference of FLORIDA and HONG KONG. 24 hour per email exchange basically.
