I just tried to take it apart with my friend who's making the nikon mount. and i got scared :)

I took off the two side plates and tried to take off the front plate, but there were too many ribbon cables that looked too delicate... does anyone have a service manual?

How have you guys gone about this?

Thanks bros!

I am also about to crack mine apart to do some mods myself.... so I'm interested in hearing what people say!

I was going to try and tap some 1/4 20 holes in the front to mount my own EVF mount (wooden camera) so that i can use monitors/3rd party EVFs easier.. maybe i should go into the top?

Not really sure....

Would love to hear some stories of others that have taken theirs apart!

Not sure if you really need to do that for an EVF mount. Instrad of opening mine up I just had a custom plate machined to change how my EVF mounts... used the three screwholes the original EVF mount did.

Haha.... logic.... good thinking. That will definitely be my new plan of attack

If you decide you "want to go in the top" A practical, non destructive method is to have a cheeseplate machined that docks to the camera. Don't worry about getting the dock connector machined though. Sony professional parts sells the docking plate part of the IF Box for $105. Buy that, then mount it to a plate of metal with M2.5 screws. Then make screw holes for the top handle if you want, and your EVF, cheesplate holes for general accessories...

It really isnt any harder than taking a desktop computer apart. I have taken a lot of laptops apart so the ribbon cables dont scare me, just take your time and dont rip anything hard. There are 2 cables that connect the ccd unit to body, you can disconnect these easily from the left side of the camera. Get the right tools so you dont strip your screws.

A little while back I made a video of me swapping my PL and Nikon plates (which includes taking the thing apart). I did this at the request of another user. I forgot to post it after that. Anyhow, check it out here...

Heh. Glad to help. ;)

I made this video because the first time I took my F35 apart I bent a pin. So I figured it might help somebody else avoid that same unhappy fate.

ps: Sorry for the rambling nature of my narration.
