I know i should goto doom but i prefer this forum.

Just want to know how to make a dvd so that the recipient is able to take the video off of it so that they are able to share it with whom ever. The trick is i want it to be able to play on a dvd player or computer and still be able to get it off. Is this possible? Thanks.

Well, what do you mean by them able to "take the video off"?

If you want a disc that can be played in a regular DVD player, then there is only one format that will work, and that's that you have to author it as a regular MPEG-2 DVD, with the VIDEO_TS directory structure, etc.

If you want someone to be able to use that video for other purposes, programs like EDIUS and Vegas and Premiere Pro CS4.1 can all take a .VOB file right out of a DVD; you could put your DVD in the drive, navigate into the VIDEO_TS folder, and drag and drop the video files onto the timeline. That won't work with copy-protected DVDs, but for unprotected DVDs, it works.

If you want the video to come out in some other format, you can use a program like "Nero Recode" to convert an unprotected DVD's .VOB files into .AVI, .MOV, .MP4 or whatever you want it converted to.

A regular DVD recorder will do fine. If wanting to author, any app wil do. Just keep write protection turned off. I hope I'm not misunderstanding your question.

Let me re-word this. Though i think i might be starting to figure it out.

I edited a video in fcp. that went splendid. Great. So now i exported it using compressor (set chapter marks as well) and after its done i want to burn it to a dvd. The people i am giving it want to be able to put it on the internet like youtube and vimeo. They also want to be able to throw it in the dvd player. Can it be done?

Not with the same video. You'll have to export it twice, one that's an authored DVD image, and the other that's a web-appropriate quicktime or .mp4 or .flv file.

dang

I sorta figured that. So using compressor, I used DVD best quality 150 minutes. After that i'll need to export it as a quicktime file, which is fine. Now is there a way i can put them both on the same disc, having the disc be usable as dvd and then being able to extract the file or will i need to do two?

You certainly should be able to fit them both on the same disc; that's a question for a DVD Studio Pro expert however. Hopefully someone will chime in here and tell you how to do it.

Thanks for your help. It's saved me time. One last thing.

Can i use the files i exported in compressor in idvd ( i haven't gotten the hang of dvd studio and was weary to try it for this because time is of the essence.)
