theoretically possible, although our current materials technology is lacking as the article suggests. the issue is the high tensile stresses. we could probably do one on the Moon however, with what we have today.

Hehehehehe...and what if it stalled. How long would it take to get assistance. I mean, talk about that one guy in the elevator for a few days, how about a month?
