Hi,

Just got a T2i yesterday and would like to know the best quality setting for shooting video... Also, I converted the raw footage with MPEG streamclip to Prores 422HQ and it made the file larger. Am I doing something wrong? I'm a newbie to the DSLR process so forgive me for asking the obvious... why is it necessary to convert to Prores? I have Final Cut Studio 3.

Thanks so much!

the file format that the camera encodes to is a H2.64 in a .mov container. This is a very good compression format for recording, but a terrible one for editing. You convert your footage into a more reasonable format so that editing is smoother.

Does that make sense?

Just convert to normal Pro Res not HQ. Secondly it makes the file larger because you are in a way unzipping the file so it can work natively with your system.

This is done for proper color correction and to have a codec that will not fall apart on you like h.264 can.
Now other agree + disagree but for the most part this is the correct way to handle the T2i's footage
