t2i - laptop works as live monitor with EOS utility

Just running thru all the do-what-gizmo's with my new t2i

EOS utility allows remote live shooting ... so your laptop can function as an external monitor. Same as 7D.

edit:
I used to do this on my 7D and there were stutter issues with longer usb cables. I imagine the same would apply here

2nd edit:
just tested with snow leopard. The new EOS util is fully compatible (unlike the one that shipped with my 7D six months ago!)

Its very good for pulling focus, that is what I used it for, nothing else.

Just sharing, you can also use an Ikan or Marshal too if u want.

What resolution is live view in EOS utility? Is it more than the rear LCDs 720x480?

I can't tell for sure but it seems exactly like the 7D and it seems a lot higher than the LCD. I would guess at 720p.

Also the frame rates are better with short usb cables. IO had no stutter at all on a 3 ft usb

Would you be able to use a USB monitor like 7" monitor utilizing the USB cable?

Just a thought.

No, I am certain that won't work. The laptop only works because it is running the EOS utility software.

The otehr way is to buy a small portable HDMI monitor

So you can start and stop shooting, set exposure, set white balance and get live view while recording? Does it affect the video at all (dropped frames is my main worry). I'd try it myself but my T2i is indisposed.

I use EOS Utility on my 5D. It is slower than the live view on your camera, but it's a great tool to have. I use it for shooting myself and setting focus and start and stop. But what it's really great for is as a secondary monitor for your director or client. That way you can still operate the camera while they are watching the footage live.

I have a video on YouTube about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVAc4VWHigo

Can someone check if you can set ISO and white balance in finer increments via EOS Utility than on camera with the T2i?

Found this pretty cool store:

http://www.angledcables.com/

The sell custom USB cables and you can design them with right angle connectors which might slim down your tethered shooting setup. Its much pricier than monoprice obviously but I think the price is OK for a one off cable if you're doing a lot of tethered shooting.

Edit:
Oh, they have premade angled cables that work perfectly and are pretty cheap too.
