T & S_lock!!!

Hope it's not panic time yet. Just cleaned heads and inserted tape. Only thing I get is "Auto off, S_lock" or T_lock. What does that mean, and how can I fix it? Book says supply and takeup lock, but doesn't go into detail. Thanks.

Update...

Not sure if I screwed anything up in the cleaning but the two tapes I used were pretty chewed up; first was hanging out of the cassette when ejected, second was pretty wrinkled at the beginning...

Anyway, I ran some recording tests with a third and it seems to be working. Still looking for answers so if you have a moment, thanks...

I was geeting the "AUTO OFF - S REEL LOCK" message, during cue-rew in playback mode, with new and old tapes, but tapes were never chewed.
Took it for a service.
What they did was: adjusting, cleaning and lubing.
Now everything works well.
