Is this correct that I can not shoot in 24p when I set the system frequency to 50 Hz? I live in a region where PAL is standard. Could this be problematic to play back when I set the system frequency to 60 Hz so that I can shoot in 24p?
When in 50 Hz, using the VFR function you can dial in 24 fps - but the way the AF100 undercrank / overcrank function works it will playback over 25fps so if you use 24fps played back at 25fps your video will run at around 104% speed.
Video shot in this way will NOT play back in camera if you then switch to 60Hz.
Also important to note, if you shot 24 over 25 there's no audio recording.
If you want 24fps with audio and normal playback speed just shoot in 60Hz. There are some caveats though so I need to ask, why do you want to do this?
24p is the only native recording format. The other formats are saved interlaced. That is why I would like to shoot in 24p. However, when it can not be played back on normal TV screens, than I will stay with 25p.
Hehe, I will try it again. When I shoot in 60 Hz can my footage be played back on a PAL TV monitor? That is my only question. I mean when I burn a DVD and put the DVD in a DVD Player, would that work? Normally, DVD Players in my region are using PAL with 50 Hz. Or I am wrong?
If you're shooting strictly for PAL television use, I would recommend just using 25p. Yes, it's technically recorded within a 50i stream, but it's a difference that doesn't make any difference at all.
With that said, if you're only making DVDs, you can use 24p mode. I've sold many 24p dvds to PAL territories and nobody has ever complained that they won't play. But why wouldn't you want to use the frame rate that's most compatible with your television system - 25p?
My thought was that 24p was superior to 25p, because 25p is recorded in 50i. When you say there is no difference, then I will use 25p. Thanks for the help! My ag-af101 arrived just today. It is an amazing camera!
