System Error - Turn Power Off

When I am recording, this message will pop up on the LCD. Sometimes it will happen immediately, and sometimes it will happen after recording for twenty, or even forty minutes. Once I turn the camera off and back on, the option to "repair" the clip pops up. It repairs the clip successfully sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. When I tried a different card (Panasonic brand), ever after formatting it with the camera, it wouldn't record on it at all.

Help? =(

I feel like it could be a card problem, but that the fact it wouldn't record on the Panasonic card at all worries me.

Do you have more than one card? Does it happen on more than one card? You need to figure out if it's the card or the camera pretty quickly.

If it was the card I would have thought it would have given the 'Check Card' error instead.

Yeah, I just mentioned that I tried it with my roommate's Panasonic brand card. He has a HMC150 as well. Would you recommend buying a card brand new?

Sorry, I must have missed that - so you tried with two cards and it won't even write to the 2nd card? That sounds odd. Do both of those cards work in your friends HMC OK? If so I would be taking the HMC back for replacement.

The Panasonic card is actually the card he uses; it works fine in his camera. I haven't tried the other card in his because I fear the problem could be within the card and mess up his camera.

Not sure what else you are hoping for....

If you have a card that you don't know if it works or not, but you have another card that you know 'does' work in another camera, yet your camera doesn't work with either of them, where do you suppose the problem could be?

It sounds like you have a choice of either buying another card and seeing if it works (but then why does the known good card not work?) or you can take the camera back and exchange it. Better still, take the camera & card back together and see which they want to replace.

Chuck the card, they are $20 for an 8GB and you can be on your way...

If you have the problem after using a new card - cam needs repair...

Get a good class 6 card - Panasonic, Sandisk, transcend or patriot are common... and when you get it - FORMAT IN THE CAMERA
