I've been looking for a decent solution here, either technical or logistical for my situation. Sometimes here I record a video presentation on the HVX, then at the same time record the computer via scan converter to a PDW-1500. I ingest both the XDCAM and P2 media into FCP and work the magic.
In my ideal world, I'd have P2 and XDCAM video synced up with timecode. I work in segments maybe even over days and weeks. Clap board or other sound sync is OK, but if I could have the whole project set to same timecode, that would be much awesome. The actual sync isn't even terribly important. I just need to match up the right clips to close to the same since I'm just overlying non-audio video.
I don't think I can sync the camera to the deck drirectly. Even if I did, I'd want to do be a constant sync. I can't seem to find where the XDCAM does sync over FireWire. It does have BNC for external sync.
What if I got an external sync generator? Could I sync the HVX200 to that with the PDW-1500?
Any other thoughts?
