Syncing two HVX cameras both with seperate firestores

Hey folks

I have an HVX with a firestore FS100. I plan to rent a second one with another identical firestore for a multi cam shoot next month but I want to sync the cameras for start and stop. The manual says, use the 1394 cable and slave one camera to the other however I'm using both those outputs for recording to the two firestores.

Any suggestion would be a great help. It would save a bunch of time in post. The show is live dance in front of an audience so I cant go out there with a clapper board.

Cheers

Unplug the firestores, sync the cameras, then plug the firestores back in. Just be aware that the sync will not be perfectly frame accurate.

Since the implementation with FW is not frame accurate, I would just bring your two cameras and Firestores up to speed and sync with a still camera flash. Works just as well as a handclap or clapper board. By just starting the two cams at the same time, you will get within a couple of seconds of each others TC, then you use the all white frame from the flash as your sync point.

I have used this for years, it works well. Just make sure you coordinate stops and starts for battery changes, etc. A single flash going off is also not a big disruption to a live event as long as you time right.

Thanks Barry and Dan.

Dan,

The simplest methods always seem to be the best. I'll pick up a used flashgun with a manual trigger from the pawn shop. That should do the trick. Like you say, no one will give it a second thought.

Cheers
