Syncing audio/video in Premiere Pro CS5

I'm a writer-director who has had to learn things like camera, editing, f/x and other things I have no aptitude for in order to make movies for possible amounts of money.

You know, that's why they came up with all those unions in Hollywood. The correct solution is - get more money! (And let the guy who's spent time and money learning and honing those crafts eat and pay his bills, as well.)

j1clark -- it WORKS! Saved! I should know all this stuff, I realize, but I am not an editor, I'm a writer-director who has had to learn things like camera, editing, f/x and other things I have no aptitude for in order to make movies for possible amounts of money.

Watch for "Girls Will Be Girls 2012" in, well, 2012!

(no, it's not porn.)

(though there IS a porn series called "Girls Will Be Girls.")

Damn... no porn... double damn...

For me it is not the aptitude... but the time... I never have the time to get the short films I've written made...

No they came up with those unions so the mafia could control the Hollywood via the labor force, because sure as hell the moguls of Hollywood didn't want them socialists or worse them commies in control...

You'll get no argument from me in principle. But of course more money is not always available, at which point the options are do nothing or do the best you can under the circumstances.

What's interesting is that the amount of money that can be made releasing indie movies -- and therefore the amount one can raise to make them -- is lowering at about the same pace as the various barriers to entry of film production. It used to be out of the question for some guy to shoot and cut his own film; now almost everybody has the required tools at hand (and may not even realize it or care.) Feature filmmaking may well in turn become a lot more like blogging -- something individuals do in their spare time or for a modest living. The films may not end up looking quite "professional" but they will be a lot more personal. And plentiful. And the more films there are, the better the chances that we get a great one.

CS5.5 Preliminary review: Fixed!

CS5.5 Preliminary review: Fixed!

I got my month-to-month copy of Premiere Pro CS5.5 last night, and though I haven't had much chance to poke around yet, here is what I've found germane to this thread.

There is a new MERGE command under CLIP that creates a clip that does indeed merge, for instance, an external audio file to a piece of video in a manner that preserves however many discreet tracks the audio contains, as well as any tracks on the video file.

So, yay.

You are given the choice of synchronization points: IN POINTS, OUT POINTS, TIMECODE, and NUMBERED CLIP MARKER.

When you nest a sequence within a sequence it DOES continue to downmix however many tracks of audio are in the nested sequence to a stereo pair. I don't know if there is a setting to override this, but in any case most editing software does this and it's not a deal-breaker for me.

FYI
