Can't delete this post but just found my answer: Firewire doesn't talk 25Pn. So I changed the framerate and now all's good. I guess that having synchronised the TC I can now change back to 25Pn. Looking forward to experimenting now that it's up and running.

Having followed Barry's manual to the letter, plus studying additional info from his article SYNC’ING TIMECODE THROUGH FIREWIRE, I am still no further ahead in trying to sync my two HPX 170s using FREE RUN. All settings are definitely the same for both cameras. 1394 TC REGEN is off. The sending camera is in CAM mode and the receiving camera is in MCR mode. I get to the point of seeing the "1394TC" displayed on the receiving camera (which is supposed to mean it's ready to receive external timecode from the sending camera). Press the TC Reset button and.... nothing. Is there maybe something obvious but not mentioned in the manual that maybe I've overlooked? (Although I have tried many permutations.) Any suggestions wld be very welcome.
