Synching multiple JVC cameras

Greetings all,

I'm coordination a multiple JVC HD shoot for a couple of months. 5 cameras shooting tons of footage and I need to be able to synch the cameras as close to each other as possiblle. Frame accurate free run recording would be preferable. I know how to do it on my HVX.. but how easy and how precise is it on the JVC? Any and all info on the process would be greatly appreciated.. as well as things to watch out for and to make sure get taken care of initially or periodically. We'll have experience operators.. but not on the JVC.. Thanks in advance... I have a meeting tonight so any info on this would be really really helpful.

and if you have any resources and websited dedicated to this.. post the link.. thanks again!

I think you're probably going to have to do the using-the-same-remote trick. There's no TC IN/OUT on the HD100, but if you're using the 250 it's simple and easy.

I'd say plan on using the remote to start them all at the same time, and then shoot each other's LCD screens so the editor sees a reference to what the other cam's time code was/is.

Barry, Thanks for that info! I'll let them know and we'll see whatever work arounds that have to happen. I was pushing for HVXs but they are concerned about the workflow with that many cameras.

Thanks so much!

Barry.. as an update. We decided to also buy a timecode slate to synch them up with on a continual basis. We'll be able to find out what each camera is offset by and then account for that from each tape.. and/or each shot. They are also surprisingly inexpensive these days. I found a new one for a grand. They also look really expensive to clients and since I occassionally do audio... it's a necessity... thanks for the advice and info!
