SxS Driver for Snow Leopard Causing Kernel Panic During Shutdown

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 17" and installed the latest SxS drivers from Sony: v1045050 (not sure where all the dots go).

Everything works fine except every time I shutdown I get a kernel panic at the blue screen with the spinning gray thing. This happens whether or not I have a card in the slot. I uninstalled the driver and the problem went away. Since I need the driver I reinstalled and the problem returned.

Do you have this problem or have any ides on what to do? Also, do you know what important processes happen on shut down that my computer is missing out on?

Thanks

Can't do it. I'm loving the fast encoding.

For now, I have the SxS uninstall and install packages on my desktop.

Let me know if anyone has a better solution. Thanks!

I have the same problem. Kernel error on shutdown with SxS drivers installed. My work around is the same. Leave install/uninstall programs on desktop and uninstall the driver when I am not using it.

Thank you for posting your problem. i have been going nuts wondering why my brand new Unibody has been giving me kernel panics on shutdown. Then I read your post. I haven't tried uninstalling my SxS driver yet, but I'm hoping you just solved my issue.

Not sure what you mean. I just get the wipe down and says I have to restart by holding down the power button.

Mine gives a kernel panic when I insert the card into my express card slot (MBP 2.33 c2d) everytime since I upgraded to SL. I hate using slow USB : (

I believe I read at some point that you needed to do a complete manual uninstall of the original SxS drivers, reboot and then intstall the Snow Leopard driver. Certainly worth a try.

Same problem occurred on my new 17" macbook pro. SL pre-installed. I did not have the problem until i installed Digidesign Pro tools (v. 8.03pr a pre-release) on this laptop, the application does not work in combination with the SXS Device Driver (v1045050).

When i uninstall the device driver, the protools works.
When i uninstall the Protools, i can read the cards and have no Kernel Panic.
It's possible that the SXS driver is not compatible with more/other applications.

Any Updaes to SxS for Unibody Kernel Panic

Any Updaes to SxS for Unibody Kernel Panic

Any new leads on this problem? It's been quite a while.

Snow Leopad + Unibody + Sony SxS cards = Kernel Panic on Shutdown

My computer, as of today March 12, still experiences Kernel Panic upon shutdown. Was there an SxS driver update I don't know about?

I have a Macbook Pro Unibody 2.53 GHZ running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and SxS Device Driver 1.0.45050.

I had this exact same problem, and after a frustrating day of tweaking, this is what I found.

Do you have or have you at one time had Avid installed?

Once I deleted the digidesign folder from /Library/Application Support, I was able to use shutdown normally without going into a kernal panic, and still have the SxS driver installed.

The SxS and Digidesign drivers somehow conflict, and cause this issue at shutdown.

At least this worked for me, I hope it helps. Unfortunately I seem to have to choose between Avid and SxS drivers at this point.

Thanks. I do have Pro Tools on my computer, so it must be the Digidesign and SxS incompatibility mentioned prior to this post.

I guess I'll just keep installing and then uninstalling the SxS drivers whenever I need to use them. Kinda sucks. I'm a tad amazed that this problem has no foreseeable fix.

driver re-install worked

driver re-install worked

i also have the 17" and after snow leopard upgrade kept getting kernel panic. a re-install of the sxs driver and restart worked for me.
