SXS-1 for $750

Update... I just ordered 2- 32gig SXS-1 for $569.00 from a different vendor... thats better!

yea better but still not good enough for me to be impressed, they were telling some prices below $400 when they announced it (I remember reading that they weren't meant to be much more than the memory stick adaptor with a 32GB memory stick.

2 for $569 would make me happy but as mico said, I read it as 2 units at $569 each :-(

I went with a 150.00 8 Gig Sandisk SxS Pro too for now. It's the best gig/dollar ratio.

Like Chad and Mico, I picked up two more SanDisk 8GB cards as well, giving me a total of four hours of shooting (4 eights and 2 sixteens).

I don't understand the rush to buy the high capacity cards, unless you're shooting day-long seminars or something of that nature and you are without a laptop for transfers.

Oh man, I should have said $569 each! Sorry for the confusion... Tape Resources sell the cards at $569 if you buy at least two.

Jay- I don't have a laptop and the price of the 32gigs at $569 was very attractive to me. I've been studying the EX1 for the last year and when you consider the entire cost of camera, 5 hours of memory, batteries, warranty, bag and UV filter for the quality of the image, all under $10,000! It's a hard deal to beat!

When Sony releases their memory stick version, I'll most likely get that version too. Looks like my EX1R will arrive Tuesday! Looking forward to do some shooting on it soon... Merry Christmas!

I understand. But considering for another $30 you could have a laptop, that $569 seems a might steep price to pay for 32GB of storage.

Just a thought.

Hmmm... If you're suggesting I have less memory and download footage into a laptop during a shoot, well... I considered it some time ago, but I'm mostly a one man band and many times I barely have enough time to setup the next shot and organize the next scene. I try to keep things simple. I've read many threads where many have said it's better to have a lot of memory and download in the calm of a studio at the end of the day. I suppose we all have our methods and I may find that getting a laptop will be in my future. Of course that means more gear to lug around and keep track of!

I really appreciate the comments, suggestions and notices that this forum of EX1 users have been posting for so long. I can tell you that I spend MANY hours going through the posts learning every facet I can about this awesome camera and I can only say this because of my direct education through these threads. Thanks -Tony

That IS what I was saying. But really we should all have Mac machines too. In a perfect world...

The last thing in the world I would ever want to start is a Mac vs PC conversation/war... I'm as open minded as the next guy and most all of my video buddies are Mac "friends", but my brain has limits on learning new OS/software applications. It took me years to forget my Amiga codes/programs. I still have my first A2000, 3000 and Amiga/VideoToaster systems. (if any of you know what that is).

The Mac is a capable system, I know this because many of my Mac "friends" remind me regularly, but I think I'll start studying a low cost PC based laptop for downloading my EX files...

I'm just a simple human being trying to keep my life as simplified as possible...

I use PC and Mac. PC for years then mac when I could afford it about 2 years ago. There is no platform more "simple" than another. They are really quite similar. One is "control s" for save, one is "command s". The applications are the same on each. It's just that the Macs are more reliable and far less prone to virus'. I still use PC for an app that doesn't make a Mac version - Steinberg Wavelab. I use that for audio mastering.

Video Toaster? Ha - I have a VHS demo of that featuring Todd Rundgren. That was from the early '90s I think.

Anyway it doesn't matter much if you are using your laptop to basically capture footage, then edit on a desktop. Get whatever for capturing.
