Switching to Mac, need suggestions

I have the powerbook G4 (4 years old) but as you know it doesn't have much of a ram 1GB or disk space 100GB but with all the junk on it I only have about 30GB.

well it depends largely on how fast your PBG4 is, you can get more ram and you can put up to a 250gb hd in it, I think... I worked with a 1.2ghz G4 PB for about a year until I got Macpro, it worked great, wish i still had a laptop, I edited only SD with it tho.. it had a gig or ram and a 120gb hd, there is nothing wrong with that, Its all about render time and your budget.

I'd go to the Apple Store if there was one near you and see if there is a Final Cut Certified guy there. When I was getting my MacBook Pro, I did that. I asked him exactly what it could handle, and he even helped me compare between the iMac, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.

If you have the budget, go and get a Mac pro. It is more expensive. but cheaper on the long run. I had my old G4 dual macpro and have it for about 6 years. I can still cut HD with it. It is slow. but when you upgrade the graphics card and ram. It pretty decent.

Also if you are using a ma book pro. You can get a DVI - HDMI cable and use a HD TV instead of buying a apple monitor
